REVIEW OF ARTSCAPE DISK 2
Some of you may have bought the first ArtScape Disk by Graeme Whittle,
which is a collection of fine graphics by a professional artist who's
really taking the Amiga's graphic capabilities to the limit. He's just
released the second in the series and has added a few useful features
to complement the graphics. (Incidentally, Graeme is looking for a good
programmer to collaborate with on software - he'd do the graphics for
whatever program was written - so call him if you're interested.)
The graphics themselves are up to Graeme's usual high standards, as
you can see in this drawer. He uses Deluxe Paint II and DigiPaint
mainly, and is currently investigating the SILVER ray-tracing program,
for which we might have a review in the next issue of Megadisc (word
has it that this is an excellent graphics program, powerful and easy
to use). Apart from the graphics that you get on the disk, which are
set up for viewing in both slideshow form and with icons for individual
viewing, there are "Colour-in" graphics which make full use of the
"Paint Fill" and colour-grading tools in DPaint for instant paintings.
This would appeal to anyone who's learning how to use DPaint, and is
particularly appealing to children who are being introduced to
computers - they can get a sense of achievement early in the process.
Also on the disk are special screens of brushes which have been
designed to make full use of the various effects possible with the
program. Incorporated is a tutorial which encourages the user to
experiment with the effects possible, under expert guidance.
So ARTSCAPE2 is not only a collection of graphics but also a learning
tool which encourages the user to get into the depths of Deluxe Paint
and uses the Amiga in a way that's entertaining and instructive. I can
foresee the eventual use of such products in schools to introduce
children to the power of computers beyond the usual fairly boring
programming-in-basic approach. If you're interested in painting on your
Amiga, get Deluxe Paint II and Artscape2 for a flying start.
